PTO hours and workdays
Paystubs and HR systems usually show PTO in hours, while time off is booked in days. This calculator converts between the two for any workday length. To see how many hours you'll have by a date, use the PTO calculator.
How to convert PTO hours to days
Divide your PTO hours by the hours in your workday. At 8 hours a day:
- 120 hours of PTO ÷ 8 = 15 days
- 160 hours of PTO ÷ 8 = 20 days
- 100 hours of PTO ÷ 8 = 12.5 days, or 12 days and 4 hours
To go the other way, multiply days by the hours in your workday: 10 days × 8 = 80 hours.

How many hours is a day of PTO?
A day of PTO is the hours you'd normally work that day. That's 8 hours on a standard 40-hour week, 7.5 hours where the workday is shorter, and 10 hours on a four-day 4×10 schedule. Part-timers usually use their own scheduled hours, so a 6-hour day off takes 6 hours of PTO.
