Roles and permissions

For everyoneUpdated Nov 1, 2026

What members, managers, approvers, OrgaNice admins and Slack owners can do in each OrgaNice feature.

Most of what people can do in OrgaNice depends on one setting, OrgaNice admin, plus a few roles that belong to a single feature.

Across OrgaNice

  • Member: everyone in your Slack workspace with an OrgaNice seat. Members update their own profile, request time off, give kudos, request rewards, answer surveys and change their personal settings.
  • OrgaNice admin: opens Settings and changes every feature, edits anyone's profile and manages billing. Admins are chosen in Settings › Admins.
  • Slack Workspace Owner or Admin: a role in Slack, not in OrgaNice. Needed to invite people to Slack and to set up Slack profile fields.
  • Slack primary owner: their sign-in lets OrgaNice update everyone's Slack profile and status, including admins and owners. See primary owner confirmation.

Org chart

  • Manager: the person a member reports to on the org chart. Managers get their team's time off requests in Incoming Requests, and OrgaNice suggests them as approvers.
  • Department manager and team manager: shown at the head of a department or team. See how to edit your org chart.
  • Hiring manager: gets the referrals for an open position and approves or rejects them. Without one, the referrals go to OrgaNice admins. See how referrals work.

Time off

  • Approver: anyone a requester adds in Ask Approval From. Approvers approve or reject that request, and can delete it until the time off starts. See group approvals.
  • OrgaNice admins see every request, can approve, reject, edit or delete any of them, add time off for others, and edit balances in Time Off Reports.

Kudos, rewards and surveys

  • Kudos: every member can give kudos up to the quota. Admins set the quota and company values.
  • Rewards: admins approve or reject reward requests and correct coins. See how to manage reward requests and coins.
  • Surveys: only admins create templates, run surveys and see the results. Members answer them.

Notifications and affiliate program

  • Notifications: only admins create and edit scheduled notifications.
  • Affiliate program: open to anyone, admin or not. See our affiliate program.

Being an admin or owner in Slack doesn't make someone an OrgaNice admin. Add them in Settings › Admins.
